The Kedungu–Nyanyi coast changed scale: where Canggu deals in 3-are gardens, Tabanan’s coast deals in half-hectare estates with clifftop lawns. Earthworks at this size stops being a line item and becomes the project’s first real decision. A grading plan that balances cut against fill on a 30-are slope routinely saves 100+ truck movements — money that goes back into the architecture instead of the road between here and a fill site.
The ground helps: Tabanan’s volcanic soil digs clean, drains better than the paddy belt, and compacts into excellent pads. The complications are distance and water. Distance — because plots sit beyond the asphalt, so access roads lead most scopes here; our geotextile-and-sirtu causeways carry loaded mixers through their first rainy season without drama. Water — because big lawns shed big volumes, so drainage gets designed with the grading, sending runoff to planned points instead of the neighbour’s new lawn or, worse, the cliff edge.

Can you keep an erosion-safe setback from the cliff edge?
Yes, and we insist on it. Cliff-adjacent cuts get surveyed setbacks, drainage directed away from the edge, and where the design pushes close, an engineer’s sign-off. Ocean views are the asset here — undermining the cliff that provides them is bad business for everyone.
Do you also build the access roads out here?
