Excavation & Drainage in Sanur

Sanur is flat, low and wet — a beautiful place to live and an honest place to dig only if you respect the groundwater. Pools, basements and septic pits here are pump-and-sequence jobs, and half our local work is fixing water that arrives where it shouldn’t.

Trenching and drainage works at a renovation project in a Sanur street Bali

Everything here is a water question

Dig a meter and a half almost anywhere in Sanur and you meet groundwater — sooner near the beach, sooner again in February. That single fact reorganises every scope. A pool pit becomes a dewatering exercise with a sump running from hour one and shotcrete scheduled tight behind us. A septic system stops being a tank-and-soakaway and becomes a sealed bio unit with a shallow field, because a conventional soakaway underwater doesn’t treat anything — it just relocates it toward wells. Owners deserve to hear this before they buy the cheaper system, not after.

The flip side is that Sanur is easy ground to move: soft, sandy-clay soils that dig fast with no rock and generous access on most streets. Machines get in, trucks turn, work goes quickly. What costs money here is water management, not excavation — which is precisely backwards from Uluwatu, and a useful thing to know when comparing quotes across the island.

A large share of our Sanur work is flood repair at established villas: perimeter French drains intercepting street water, regraded garden falls, storage pits with pumps where gravity has run out of options. Much of the housing stock is decades old, gardens are mature, and renovation trenching gets routed to protect roots and old paving. Nearby we also work Denpasar and up the road toward Ubud — a free diagnosis visit in Sanur usually happens within a day or two.

FAQ

Earthworks in Sanur — FAQ

How high is the water table in Sanur?

Often 1–1.5 m below grade, higher in the wet season and closer to the beach. Anything deeper than a footing — pools, basements, septic pits — needs dewatering planned from day one. It is a line item in our quotes, never a mid-project surprise.

Do soakaways work in Sanur?

Poorly in the wet season, when the ground is already saturated to soakaway depth. The honest design here is often storage plus a pump pit with a verified discharge route, or a sealed bio septic unit instead of a conventional tank-and-field. See drainage and septic systems.

Can you dig a pool at an old Sanur villa without wrecking the garden?

Yes — most of our Sanur work is retrofit. Mini excavator in on trackway, spoil shuttled out, mature trees protected, dewatering running throughout. Sanur gardens are usually decades old and we treat them accordingly.

Is the flooding on my street fixable on my own land?

Usually the villa can be protected even when the street cannot: perimeter interception, regraded falls, storage and pumping. We diagnose free — in the rain if the timing works, because that is when the evidence shows itself.
