What you get with pool excavation
Set-out from pool drawings
We dig from your pool builder’s drawings, not from a garden hose laid on the grass — footprint, depths, steps and benches marked and agreed before the machine starts.
Correct overdig
Shotcrete and formwork need working space: typically 30–50 cm beyond the finished shell plus room for plumbing runs. Too little overdig costs your pool crew days; too much costs you trucks.
Stable walls
Cut angles matched to your soil — vertical in stiff clay, benched or battered in loose ground — so the pit is still a pit after the first rain, not a crater.
Sump & dewatering
A sump corner and pump keep the pit dry for steel and shotcrete. In high-water areas (Canggu, Seseh, Sanur) this line item is the difference between schedule and swamp.
Spoil haul-away
A typical pool produces 50–80 m³ of soil — 8 to 12 trucks. We load direct where access allows; where it doesn’t, we shuttle with mini machines. Counts fixed in the quote.
Bottom & handover
Floor trimmed to level, deep-end transitions cut clean, pit handed to your pool builder with levels verified — most pool companies we work with skip their own re-check now.
The pit is half the pool
Pool problems in Bali rarely start with tiles — they start underground. A pit dug 20 cm short of overdig means the shotcrete crew hand-carves working space for days on your money. A pit dug without wall angles collapses in the first squall and gets re-dug — twice the trucks, twice the mess. We’ve excavated pools across the island for seven years, and our promise is boring: the pit matches the drawing, stays open, and stays dry.
Soil pools and rock pools are different products
In Canggu, Pererenan or Sanur your pool lives in soil: fast dig, cheap m³, but water management matters — high water tables mean a sump running from hour one. On the Bukit — Uluwatu, Bingin, Ungasan — your pool is carved into coral limestone with a hydraulic breaker. Slower, louder, pricier per m³ — and utterly stable once cut. Same end result, different trade. Quotes that don’t name which one you’re buying are guesses.
Keeping the hole open in the wet season
December pits need discipline: tarped crests, a pumped sump, and a schedule where your pool builder’s steel crew follows us within days. We plan dig dates against the forecast and against their calendar — it’s a phone call that saves owners real money, and most excavation crews simply don’t make it. Access theatrics, solved calmly
Our favourite kind of job: a finished villa in Bingin, pool planned on the cliff side, access via a footpath. Mini excavator walked in on trackway, soil shuttled out by power barrow, 54 m³ moved without touching a single frangipani. Tight access doesn’t make a pool impossible — it makes it 20–30% more expensive and a few days slower, and you’ll know that number before you commit, not after.

Add honesty: if your garden can absorb the spoil as berms or fill, trucks drop out and the price falls — we suggest it whenever the landscape allows. How long does pool excavation take in Bali?
In soil with decent access: 1–2 days including trim and haul-away. Through a villa gate with a mini machine: 3–4 days. In Bukit limestone with a breaker: 5–10 days depending on rock hardness — see rock breaking for how that’s priced honestly.
Our villa is finished — can you dig a pool behind it without wrecking the garden?
This is half our pool work: renovations where the only way in is a 1.8 m side gate. Mini excavator in, soil shuttled out in dumper loads, plywood trackway protecting the path, walls and gate photographed before we start. The garden loses a strip of lawn, not its trees.
What stops the pit collapsing if it rains before shotcrete?
Correct wall angles for the soil, a sump pumping from day one, and tarps on the crest so runoff doesn’t wash the edges. We also coordinate dig timing with your pool crew so steel follows us within days, not weeks — an open pit is a liability we don’t like leaving behind.
Do you work with our pool company or replace them?
With them. We are the excavation trade: we dig to their drawings and tolerances, they build the shell. Several Bali pool builders bring us in themselves for tight-access and limestone jobs. If you don’t have a pool company yet, we’ll happily recommend ones whose drawings we trust.
Can the excavated soil stay on site instead of paying for trucks?
Often yes — 60 m³ becomes garden berms, a terraced planting bank, or fill for a low corner, compacted properly. If your landscape design can absorb the soil we grade it in as part of the job, and the trucking line drops out of your quote entirely.
