The gorge is the price and the prize

Pererenan’s best plots trade flat convenience for river views — and hand their owners a vertical problem. Our work here is rarely “dig a hole”: it’s cutting terraces into a slope that drops toward the Yeh Poh or a side gorge, holding those terraces with batu kali or gabion walls, and routing water so February doesn’t reclaim the engineering. The reward for doing it properly is the villa every guest photographs from the pool edge.

Under the topsoil, Pererenan hides river-boulder conglomerate — rounded stones the old rivers left behind. Some days the bucket slides through clay; some days it rings on a boulder the size of a sofa. We test-pit before quoting, price boulder ground in its own band, and turn the better stones into wall face and road base instead of paying to truck them away. Spoil that can’t be reused leaves through routes agreed with the banjar — the lanes here are as tight as Canggu’s, with more elevation drama.

Recent Pererenan work: a 38 m gorge-side wall with full backdrain, three stepped villa pads balanced on site (zero trucks either way), and a pool pit ten meters from the gorge lip — dug, dewatered and handed to the shotcrete crew in four days.
