PC200-class excavator with a hydraulic breaker, worked in a planned pattern — break, muck out, repeat. No blasting, ever: illegal for this work and lethal for neighbour relations.
Precision trimming
Pool walls, footing lines and tank pits trimmed to drawing tolerances. Limestone cuts clean when the operator knows the material — ours have broken Bukit rock for years.
Rock reuse on site
Broken limestone is excellent road base and gabion fill. We crush and reuse it on your plot where the design allows — often erasing the disposal line from your quote.
Vibration care near structures
Smaller breakers, shorter bursts and hand-splitting near existing walls and neighbouring villas. We photograph adjacent structures before starting, for everyone’s protection.
Haul-away of surplus
What can’t be reused is trucked to buyers — limestone spoil has a market — or to legal sites. Truck counts in writing, like everything else.
Your plot used to be a coral reef
Geology decides budgets on the Bukit. The whole peninsula — Uluwatu, Bingin, Ungasan, Pecatu — is uplifted coral limestone with a skin of red soil on top, often less than half a meter thick. Everything below the skin is rock: not boulders in soil, but continuous bedrock. Machines that dig a Canggu pool pit in a day sit uselessly scratching here. What works is a hydraulic breaker, patience, and an operator who reads the rock’s bedding planes so every strike does double work.
The test dig ritual
Every rock quote we issue starts the same way: we bring a machine, open a test pit at the deepest point of your future excavation, and measure two things — where the rock starts and how many breaker-minutes a cubic meter costs. It takes an hour and it’s free. This is the only honest way to price limestone; the alternative is the story we hear monthly, where a “cheap” soil-price quote triples once the bucket rings on rock and the owner has no leverage left. Breaking without breaking friendships
A breaker is loud and the Bukit is no longer empty. Our protocol is fixed: banjar notified before mobilization, closest neighbours greeted personally with the schedule, working hours agreed and kept, silence during ceremonies. Near existing structures we drop to a smaller breaker or hand splitting — slower and pricier per m³, but vibration cracks in a neighbour’s wall cost more than the difference. Structures adjacent to the work get photographed before we start; it protects them and us.
Rock is an asset, not just an obstacle
Here’s what softens the price: broken limestone is valuable. Crushed, it makes the best road base on the peninsula — most of our Uluwatu clients get their driveway base from their own pool. Larger clean blocks become gabion fill or landscape stone. On a recent Ungasan estate we reused 68% of 210 m³ of spoil on site and sold the rest to a road crew — the disposal line on that invoice read zero.

How do I know if my plot is on rock?
If you’re on the Bukit — Uluwatu, Bingin, Ungasan, Pecatu, upper Jimbaran — assume limestone under a thin soil skin, usually 20–80 cm down. Elsewhere in Bali rock is rarer but river boulders happen (Pererenan gorges). The free test dig answers it in an hour; never accept a soil-price quote for a Bukit plot without one.
Do you use explosives?
No. Blasting for private construction is not permitted, and on a peninsula where villas stand shoulder to shoulder it would be insane. Hydraulic breakers do the work: slower, controlled, legal, and safe for the cliff edge fifty meters away.
How loud is it and for how long?
Honestly: it’s a breaker — steady percussive noise through working hours. A typical pool takes 5–10 days of breaking. We notify the banjar and closest neighbours before starting, keep to agreed hours (usually 08:00–17:00), and pause for ceremonies. Goodwill costs nothing and buys everything.
Can the broken rock be reused instead of hauled?
Yes, and it should be: crushed limestone is the best road base on the Bukit and perfect gabion fill. On most Uluwatu jobs we reuse 40–70% of spoil on site — your driveway base effectively free. What’s left often sells; limestone disposal can even net out positive.
Why is the price a range of 380–550k per m³?
Because Bukit limestone isn’t one material. Young coral cap breaks fast; dense recrystallized bands eat breaker hours. The test dig tells us which you own, and the quote fixes your band in writing. A single-number quote given without a test dig will be corrected later — at your expense, not theirs.
